Trader Mike: Morgan Stanley on the Potential of RSS

Trader Mike: Morgan Stanley on the Potential of RSS

Very interesting Morgan Stanley report on My Yahoo! and their use of RSS feeds in the new version of My Yahoo! Very timely post and report since I just spent last night in a My Yahoo! focus group in NYC talking about the future of My Yahoo!

I think I am going to cross post this with my Stock Talk blog. It is time to take a good hard look at Yahoo shares.

Google Buys Digital Mapping Company - Keyhole

Google Buys Digital Mapping Company
Very cool people! I checked out the trial of the Lite (LT) version of the software for personal use. I found my house and neighborhood on the aerial photos. When you zoom out and plot the names of streets, it could be a good way to provide directions to somewhere.

No word yet on how this will be rolled into Google, but let me search for addresses and see aerial photo maps for free and I'll take a few ads for nearby businesses on the side of the page.

Check it out. I may blog some more about it when I try it out at home. Post an image of a map or something like that.

The New York Times > Technology > Intel to Join in a Project to Extend Wireless Use
NY Times article on Intel's involvement / investment in WiMax with Craig McCaw's new company Clearwire.
The link is a NY Times archive link and should work without having to be registered (free but annoying) with the Times.

EverNote - EverNote Demo at Digital Life Show

EverNote - EverNote
I posted on this before, and yesterday I got to see this app up close in the EverNote booth and during their presentation on stage. I was so impressed after the brief demo in the booth, that I went back to sit in on the stage show presentation later in the day.

This app really looks like it has figured out how to keep track of all the miscellaneous information that one comes across with the running "note tape". Add in: assigning multiple categories, great search functionality, and synching to a handheld (Pocket PC, Palm,...) and I think they have a winner here.

The best part is: the apps are free for the client devices like the PC, Tablet, handheld, etc... The company indicated they will be charging a $20/Year fee for syncronization service amongst the client devices.

The beta should be out before the end of the month. Sign up here:Sign Up to be notified when Beta is available

Google @ Digital Life Show

Google had one of the most active booths at the show. They must have been giving away some good stuff because it was always jam packed in the booth. They also had a full meeting room with rows and rows of PCs set up for demos of all the Google apps. Google, GMail, Froogle, Blogger, Orkut (I signed up at the show - awaiting my invite), Google Groups, Google Labs, etc... - It was all Google, all the time.

LookSmart's Furl - Your Personal Web

LookSmart's Furl - Your Personal Web
I have just signed up to start using Furl.net. This is a great way to manage all those sites you come across while surfing the Net where you want to follow up on something, try out a product or service when you have more time, tell a friend about something that will interest them, etc...

Furl puts a toolbar on your browser (IE) or just a bookmark (Firefox, or if you just prefer "no more toolbars"). When you come across a site of interest you "Furl It" with the browser button or by clicking on the bookmark. A pop up window then lets you categorize the site, rate it, email it to someone and it adds it to your Furl history, where you can later search it by keyword, date, and other ways.

Furl also shows you a list of Today's Popular Items which lets you set what sites Furl users are "Furling" currently. This is a good way to see what's new and hot on the Web before you get that 2 day late email that is going around from a friend that says "... you gotta see this!". Been there, done that!

For those with Blogs and websites, you can paste code into your site that lets visitors to your site see a daily or running list of the sites that you have Furled. I will try this out with my Blogs and/or website in the near future.

Of course, the real benefit of this is for users of multiple computers. My workday Furls can later be looked at when I get home and have more time just by reviewing my history at the website. Furl means File url in case you were curious.

Google Rolls Out Test of Short Message Service

Yahoo! News - Google Rolls Out Test of Short Message Service
This is an interesting concept. It enables you to access Google searches without using an internet browser on your phone, you just use SMS to send a text message. At first, I wondered as I often do when thinking about these Local directory services..."sounds great but what if I don't know the zip code of where I am at the moment". Google seems to have this covered by allowing you to enter the city and state. That begs the question, Is it only major cities or can I say Melville, NY and get local LI listings and not NYC?

I will give it a try on the cell phone and see how well it works. I can also Google via the web browser on my phone without incurring SMS messaging charges since I already pay for a monthly data plan, so I don't see it becoming a common tool for me.

Sproqit takes on RIM, Good, & Visto with remote Outlook access software

MobileVillage: PDAs, Handhelds, Mobile Computing & Wireless Technology for Business

Sproqit Technologies Inc. today announced the launch of Sproqit Personal Edition software, which allows individual users to access all the features of Outlook or other desktop applications from a PDA or Smart phone, and receive email on an automated "push" basis similar to BlackBerry.

This looks like an interesting software product. I want to try this out when it becomes available.

USATODAY.com - Next big thing: The Web as your servant

USATODAY.com - Next big thing: The Web as your servant

This author sees the future - and it looks pretty cool! Now if I can just get those RSS traffic feeds for Long Island to work on traffic.com Iand access them wirelessly over my cell phone or PDA, I can start to experience some of this now. Also, the 10 year timeline of the Internet is an interesting read.
