An Ethernet enabled DivX DVD player is discussed in this article. Perhaps that would be a good device to play my DVDs that I am archiving on the Network hard drives.

Banner Add for Blog Explosion

I've been playing around with Blog Explosion in order to get some visitors to my Blogs. Basically, for every few blogs you visit, someone visits your blog. It gets more complicated than that, but if you build up credits you can use them to have a banner ad placed on their site while people are browsing the blogs. So, I decided I needed a banner ad and found this site AdDesigner.com to make free banner ads.

Sonos music system for digital music throughout every room in your house. Decent price point of $1200 for the main unit and 2 rooms. Supports music files on NAS (Network Attached Storage).

Yahoo! News - Yahoo to Begin Testing Desktop Search in January

Yahoo! News - Yahoo to Begin Testing Desktop Search in January
There are many players in this market now or coming in the near future. It will be interesting to see how they can differentiate their offerings and what the pricing models will be. Free (w/ ads), subscription, etc... The article mentions Google, now Yahoo, Microsoft, Ask Jeeves but it fails to mention Copernic Desktop search. It was just announced that mama.com is buying Copernic.

I am using Copernic now and it is doing the job for me. I unistalled Google Desktop for now. I would most likely give the Yahoo! one a try.

The New York Times > Technology > Signs of a Glut and Lower Prices on Thin TV's

The New York Times > Technology > Signs of a Glut and Lower Prices on Thin TV's
The article predicts a 30% price drop on LCD flat panels by this time next year. Best to wait, but that "gotta have", "want it now" feeling is tough to control.

Considering getting a CRT based widescreen HDTV first in the 30 to 34" range for the bedroom - these are around $900 or $1200 or so now. Then maybe next year get the 42" LCD referred to in this quote from the article:

Ross Young, president of DisplaySearch, predicts that there will be a 53 percent increase in capacity during 2005, and he says that will put a lot of pressure on pricing. A 42-inch L.C.D. set that costs close to $4,500 today will be $3,100 next year, and $2,250 in 2006, he says.

What do you think? Are you waiting or crossing it off this year's list?
