ViewSonic Media Gateways

Unwire Your Audio & Video with Home Media Networking

Home media networking products that let you stream audio, photos and video from your PC to your stereo and TV are multiplying fast. The first such products streamed music only, but now complete media systems that handle virtually everything your PC can produce are hitting the mainstream.

This fall, HP and others will be shipping the first Windows Media Center PC Extenders, which are basically intelligent Wi-Fi receivers for data stored on your Media Center PC. You can access all the content on your remote PC with a wireless keyboard and your TV monitor.

Another approach to Wi-Fi media networking is the home media gateway. ViewSonic's new WMG80 and WMG120 Wireless Media Gateways are Wi-Fi routers with built-in 80 or 120GB hard drives for media serving, as well as two USB ports for adding external storage devices and printers. The companion WMA100 Wireless Media Adapter then connects to your home entertainment system via a plethora of AV ports, including component video, S-video, DVI, composite video, digital audio, and analog audio. The WMA100 also includes a full-function remote control that makes it easy to access your media files, including Internet radio.

The ViewSonic system's combination of total media access, integration with the Wi-Fi gateway, and full complement of AV connections make it a unique solution at a relatively popular price ($399 for the 80GB gateway, $299 for the adapter and remote). Look for similar products in the near future from major consumer electronics vendors.

New Strategies for Personal Mass Storage

New Strategies for Personal Mass Storage

Good article on the options available for mass storage for the home user.

Digital Connect | Adobe Plans New Format For Digital Photos

Digital Connect | Adobe Plans New Format For Digital Photos

Add another acronym to the list! .DNG for Adobe's Digital Negative Specification.

This is interesting. As storage costs decrease and the average person begins to increase their available gigabytes (GB) or soon even terrabytes (TB) of storage, more and more digital photos may be kept in the RAW format. For now, I don't see this having much use outside of imaging professionals.

A9.com > Company > Why use A9.com?

A9.com > Company > Why use A9.com?
Worth a look. Toolbar for IE only. I have too many toolbars already. Hopefully this one can live up to the promises outlined on the page in this link, then I can get rid of some other toolbars that just aren't pulling their weight and get back some screen real estate. I will install and try it out and post a followup.

Evernote - A new OneNote type application

I will be keeping an eye out for the forthcoming public beta of this app. It is supposed to work on PDAs like the Treo shown in the pic and Pocket PC Windows Mobile 2003 is where my interest is. As a current OneNote user, the two way integration with the PPC is what is missing from OneNote and this may fill that void. I signed up for an email alert for when a public beta is to begin.

Vazu - A new cell phone contact management tool

Vazu
This is a new way to store and send contacts to your cell phone by SMS text messages. Besides integrating with your Outlook phone book, it can put a checkmark next to phone #'s that it finds on webpages (like address books or Contact info) and let you send those numbers to your phone. Worth a look, especially as a way to back up your phone numbers and move them between phones - or just to exchange contact info with others. There are some more techy ways to do this like Bluetooth, IR, Vcards, etc... but for most people this should work well.

I thought I'd post this to my Blog. I guess it doesn't have much to do with technology, other than the tech to Blog the photo, etc...

So, for one occasional post, I will have a tech free post. Enjoy the time viewing the peaceful garden.
